Townsville Triathlon Festival - 18-20 August 2017

Now in its 15th year, the Townsville Tri Festival offers a full weekend of racing catering for all distances and disciplines. This year the festival welcomed back the Olympic Distance Tri, which also doubled as a World Championship qualifying race. With the World Championship being held on the Gold Coast in September 2018, a strong field of competitors were lured north in a bid to qualify for the green and gold.

Four Tri-ActiV8 athletes participated over the weekend in the Olympic, Sprint and Kids races. Townsville certainly delivered near perfect race conditions and definitely showed the southern athletes what a North Queensland winter was really all about. We are proud for our team and what they achieved over the weekend and look forward to bringing a bigger team to the race in 2018.

Olympic Distance

Rachel Belthouser – 2:58:59

In only her second race at this distance Rachel put in a phenomenal effort to get under the 3hr mark for this race. A strong swim/bike leg and some swift transition work were keys to her success in this race. Rachel will now re-focus her training towards Noosa Triathlon in early November. Well done Rachel.

Sprint Distance

Kerryn McDuff – 1:36:22

Kerryn has progressed in leaps and bounds this year after starting out in our Women’s Only camp earlier this year. A strong performance across the swim, ride and run lead to a great race. Kerryn now has her sights set on the Mackay Triathlon Festival where she will race in her first Olympic Distance. Congratulations and good luck Kerryn.

Renee Cross – 1:33:42

Renee started her triathlon journey this year and has found inspiration to challenge and motivate herself through training with Tri-Activ8. Commitment to training saw Renee have a strong race and she will now turn her attention to her debut at the Olympic Distance in Mackay before her race at Noosa as part of the Smiling for Smiddy team. Renee’s weekend was topped off by a win for her beloved Sharks over the Cowboys. Well done Renee.

Kids Try-athlon

Finn McDuff

Our superstar Finn put his open water swimming fears behind him and had a fantastic race in the Kids Triathlon. Cheered on by his support crew he finished fast in the run and made us all proud. Super effort Finn!
