Weekend Wrap Up - 15-16 July 2017

|| Mackay Triathlon Club Duathlon Series – Race 1 ||

It was great to see so many triathletes competing at the Mackay Tri Club's 1st duathlon of their series in both Sprint (4km run/24km cycle/2km run) and Enticer (2km run/12km cycle/1km run) distances.  The duathlon starts and finishes at the Blue Water Quay incorporating a run over the picturesque Pioneer River and a cycle along the Boddington Esplanade.  Race Director, Bernard duToit welcomed the athletes to the annual series that starts with a Mini Kids Duathlon.

With rain earlier in the morning, the conditions proved a little challenging but luckily the weather cleared in time for the race start.

Our Tri-ActiV8 Tribe had 15 athletes racing in the sprint distance with Josh Bornman running home second overall, Dwayne German fourth and Coach Nikki Giles sixth overall and first female over the line.

Outstanding performances were had by Robert Young, Kristen Pinnington and Christine Webb who pushed their limits in the quality field of competitors. Our other awesome V8er’s competing included Cath Meng, Pam Houston, Jacqueline Bussey and Janelle Steindl. The 3 athletes making their duathlon debut were Emily Dalglish, Ken Furdek, and Michael Kynaston.

The enticer field had 4 V8er’s competing with Kathy Parish racing strong to lead in a quality field ahead of Jamie Bornman, Jane Young, Dee Woods and Lisa Chapman.

|| Airlie Beach Running Festival ||

The 5th annual Airlie Beach Running Festival was held on Sunday 16th of July. A small group of Tri-ActiV8 athletes ventured up to the Whitsunday’s to take part. The weather was near perfect on race morning treating the athletes to a spectacular day of racing.

Bec Baird, Greame Harris and Julie Whibley took on the 21.1km run, which had a new course to last year. Greame had a great run placing 3rd in his age group. Kerryn McDuff participated in the 10km run placing 6th in her age group.

We were also super proud of our Secondary School State Cross Country Championship competitor in Brisbane yesterday and competing in team relays today.
