Safe Courses Parents Can Trust

🏊 1. The Pool Swim

The swim is in the 25m pool. Kids will need to be able to swim the allocated distance unassisted. Tri-ActiV8 volunteers will be pool marshals ensuring safety.

🚴 2. The Bike Course

The ride is within the safety of the MARC and University. If a chain falls off or a tyre goes flat, a volunteer rider will assist and get them back in the fun!

🏃 3. The Track Run

The run is on the state-of-the-art tartan running track. Parents have lots of opportunities to cheer your child from the sidelines!

Stress-Free Race Day

The Parents' Preparation Playbook

1. Before The Big Day

  • Make sure your child is registered online;
  • Check out the maps to review the course;
  • Talk about the course with your child – head down to MARC to take a dip and look around;
  • Practice running with shorter strides, being relaxed, and breathing out;
  • Practice riding along a path and staying to the left;
  • Check seat height, inflated tyres, good working chain, and brakes;
  • Practice putting on shoes, shirt, and buckling helmet with wet feet and hands;
  • Allow them to be independent—remind them they are AWESOME!

2. Preparation – The Night Before

  • Pack the night before with your child.
  • Check goggles fit.
  • Bike tyres are pumped up.
  • Chain is clean and on properly.
  • Helmet fits perfectly (every child must wear a helmet).
  • Fill up water bottles.
  • Shirt for the ride (torso must be covered—tri-suit or rashie accepted).
  • Sneakers match and packed.

3. Race Day Morning Routine

6:15am – 6:35am: Arrive between 6.15am and 6.35am to park, car parking is at the front University Car Park.
6:45am: Kid-friendly warm-up and mini-athlete briefing.
7:00am: Sign in & receive your child’s coloured wristband.
7:15am: Help your kids set up their transition area. Tri-ActiV8 coaches let warm up for our mini-athletes.
Transition area & course: Walk through the transition: identify mount/dismount lines and bike spot with your child.
  • Find a spot that is easy for your child to locate their shoes and hat after the swim;
  • Arrange running shoes, hat and water bottle (encourage to only have a sip before their run);
  • Spend some time to show your kids where the exit gate is so they know where to go for the run.
7:30am: Swim start & cheer time!
