NEW for 2027 is the “Sugar Cane Cut”.

The Sugar Cane Cut: Backyard Ultra meets the ultimate Beep Test.

How far can you go before you get cut? Set on a fast 1.6km loop, this high-energy elimination race tests your speed, stamina, and race strategy. Run alongside the "Roo" as the pace ramps up lap by lap.

How It Works

• The Mass Start: Every runner lines up together at the start of each lap.

• The Progressive Pace: Lap 1 starts at an easy, leisurely warm-up pace. With every completed lap, the target time drops and the Roo speeds up.

• Beat the Roo: Cross the finish line ahead of the Roo to secure your rest break and earn a spot on the next start line.

• The Cut: If the Roo crosses the line ahead of you, your race is run. Your official result is the total number of complete laps finished ahead of the cut.

Run Your Own Race

Whether you are a local parkrunner out for a fun morning or an elite endurance athlete chasing the ultimate distance, you set your own finish line:

• The Sprinters & Fun Runners: Complete 2 to 4 laps for a fast, punchy 5km effort.

• The Mid-Pack Grinders: Push your threshold through 10 to 15 laps.

• The Ultra Contenders: Hang on as the pace reaches race speeds, pushing through 40km, 50km, or beyond.

Prizes & Glory

• Last Standing: The final male and female runner remaining claim overall victory.

• Intermittent Giveaways: Spot prizes, milestone rewards, and prime sprint bonuses up for grabs throughout the day.
