Kids Tri-ed hard in the first event of 2022 Tri-ActiV8 Kids Tri-Series

Last Sunday, 13 November more than 70 local kids from Mackay and beyond descended on the Mackay Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) for the first event of the 2022 Tri-ActiV8 Kids Triathlon Tri-Series.

The weather was sunny, clear and the wind was nil, perfect for the first of the 3-part Triathlon and Aquathlon series.

The event kicked off at 6.15am. The 5 to 6 year olds participated in the Kids Aquathlon completing a length of the 25m pool before hopping out and tearing off out of the aquatic centre and on to the MARC running track, completing a 500m run.

Kids aged 7 to 9 years participated in either the Triathlon or Aquathlon. All kids completed a lap of the 25m pool (50m distance) and 2.1 laps of the MARC running track (900m distance). The triathlon kids transitioned to their bikes between the swim and running legs to complete 3 cycle laps of the carpark (3km distance).

Our 10 to 12 years left nothing behind. They also had the choice of the Triathlon or Aquathlon. All kids in this age group swam 2 laps of the 25m pool (100m distance) and ran 3.1 laps of the MARC track (1.3km distance). The triathlon kids completed 4 cycle laps of the carpark (4km distance).

Our Tri-ActiV8 Tribe were there on the day to support the kids in the pool, at transition, out on the bike course at the running track. There was cheering, lots of encouragement and assistance.

The 2nd event in the series is scheduled for Sunday 27 November. We can’t wait to welcome all of the kids back and hope to see some new kids to Triathlon and Aquathlon at the next event. Registrations are now open.

A big “thank you” to all of our sponsors: Corry Cycles, Dirty Possum, Macrossan & Amiet Solicitors, SBB Partners, Mackay City Property - Sandra Macklin and Advanced Polymer Soloutions.
